My Favorite Recent Purchases for a Healthy Lifestyle

My Favorite Recent Healthy Purchases

These are some of my favorite purchases related to healthy eating and healthy lifestyle changes that I have made over the past few years.  I highly recommend all of them and wish that I had purchased them sooner.  I like to do a lot of research before making any purchases and try to make sure it will be worth it.  When I find things I love it is fun to share with others and see them get the same kind of enjoyment.

Vitamix:

We purchased our Vitamix on sale at Bed Bath and Beyond and used one of their 20% off coupons which brought it to about $300.  It has been so well worth the purchase.  Our favorite things to make are:

Homemade nut butter.  Simply add nuts and blend.  The nuts should be roasted.  You can buy them dry roasted or roast in the oven and cool before blending.  The roasting brings out the oils in the nuts so you do not have to add any extra oil.  Peanuts are the easiest to make into nut butter.  Almonds are sometimes harder to get to the correct consistency.  One trick is to add a small amount of peanuts to the almonds.  1 pound of dry roasted almonds with ¼ pound of peanuts blends easily and is awesome.  I would be happy with my Vitamix if the homemade nut butter was all we used it for.

Smoothie Bowls.  The tamper that comes with the Vitamix allows you to blend your ingredients with very little liquids.  This makes for a great consistency to your acai or other fruit smoothie bowl.  Our favorite ingredients are frozen bananas, blueberries, and strawberries along with flax seed and a small amount of unsweetened almond milk.  Top with granola, nut butter, and fruit.

Smoothies.  Similar to the smoothie bowls but with more liquid.

Instant Pot

We purchased our Instant Pot on sale for $60.  Typical price is $99.  We have had it for about 2 years and can’t believe that we didn’t get one sooner.  We have loved everything we have made so far in our Instant Pot.

Current favorites:

  1. Quinoa

  2. Brown Rice

  3. Chili

  4. Pulled Pork

  5. Shredded Chicken

  6. Refried Beans

  7. Lentils

Standing Desk

I purchased a standing desk about 1 year ago.  It was less than $200, easy to assemble, and easily transitions from sitting to standing options.  My back has felt better at the end of the day since I have been using it and I feel like I am more active throughout the day while using it.  I have recently added a balance board which has been a fun addition.  Considering and under desk treadmill.
