Summary Sheet: Know Your Numbers

Personally, obtaining all of these results earlier this year motivated me to make major lifestyle changes that significantly improved my blood pressure, weight, BMI, lipid profile and cardiac risk.

  • Blood Pressure

    • Normal is <130/80

  • BMI (Calculated based on your height and weight)

    • Normal is < 25

  • Lipid Profile

    • Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL

  • Fasting Glucose

    • Elevated in diabetes and pre-diabetes   

      • Normal is < 100

  • Cardiac Calcium CT Score 

    • Helps evaluate for silent heart disease

    • Helps determine lifestyle interventions you should be making, potential need for cholesterol lowering medications, and need for further cardiac workup as appropriate

    • The test costs about $85, not typically covered by insurance

    • Radiation exposure is about the same as a mammogram

    • CT scan that Takes about 5 minutes or less, no IV contrast

    • Requires an order from your doctor in most states

  • Cardiac Risk Score

    • Above results can be plugged into various risk calculators to determine your 10 year risk for having a heart attack or stroke.  (ACC/AHA Cardiovascular Risk Calculator, Astro-CHARM Calculator, MESA Risk Calculator)
